PATNA: The East Central Railway (ECR) on Tuesday held a seminar on the occasion of Vigilance Awareness Week being observed from November 3 to November 7 at its headquarters in Hajipur. ECR AGM Barun Bharthuar administered a pledge to the railway officials and employees to work with honesty and utmost devotion to duty.

Speaking on the occasion, the ECR AGM said that the railway officials should be impartial in their day-to-day work and they must maintain full transparency as well. The railway officials should also keep themselves informed about corruption and malpractices rearing their ugly heads in other government offices so that they could remain vigilant while doing their duty too, he said.

Former ECR GM Girish Bhatnagar who graced the occasion as the chief guest, said that corruption had deeply penetrated into the society. Though several laws were made to check it, but to no avail so far. Unless people are vigilant, corruption would not come to an end. Besides, there is a need to create an ideal atmosphere in the society to curb growing influence of corruption, he said.

Bhatnagar regretted that justice to the poor is still being denied in the society. While there are many people who talk about justice to the poor, unfortunately, there are a few only who really work hard to champion the cause of the poor in the society, he said.

Chief vigilance official of ECR Narendra Kumar dwelt at length on the importance of Vigilance Awareness Week in the railways. He said that the ECR has adopted various methods like e-procurement, e-payment and tender online to maintain full transparency in railway functioning. However, he informed that ECR has set up a separate cell 0612-155210) to keep a tab on corruption and malpractices in
different wings of the railways.

People could register their complaints directly dialling the number about corruption or any other grievances against erring railway employees. Besides, they could also lodge complaint online (sdgm@...) so that the railways could initiate proper action, he said.

Many senior railway officials and employees of ECR attended the seminar. Earlier, the ECR AGM released a vigilance bulletin on the occasion.
