Vadodara rly earns Rs 1.26 cr from ticketless passengers

VADODARA: In just one month, Vadodara division of Western Railways earned Rs 1.26 crore, the highest sum collected ever, by apprehending
ticketless passengers.
Senior divisional commercial manager DK Chachondia told TOI on Tuesday that the division was able to register such a record earning from ticket checking by apprehending 32,995 ticketless passengers in October.
In fact, the previous high was in October 2008. "Earlier, it was in October 2008 that we had registered our highest ever earning of Rs 1.12 crore. But, this October, earnings from ticket checking have reached a new height," said Chachondia.
The festival of Diwali had a role to play, as the division also generated Rs 16.62 crore earning the month from 60 lakh passengers during Diwali rush. "There is a six to seven per cent additional growth in terms of volume as compared to the same period last year," he said.
As part of vigilance awareness week, the division has also organised a seminar at Railway Institute, Pratapnagar on Wednesday. Senior deputy general manager OP Agrawal, secretary of Ramkrishna Mission Swami Nikhileswaranda and former vigilance commissioner of Gujarat Dr Alok Narayan will be address the seminar.
