KUTCH EXPRESS COMPLETS 25 YEARS ON 2ND OCTOBER 2009
9193/9132 Bandra Terminus – New Bhuj Kutch Express is going to complete 25 year of it service on 2nd October 2009. It connects New Bhuj directly to Mumbai. On 2nd October 1984 ,Gandhi Jayanti ,it was flagged off as 31DN/32UP Bombay Central – Gandhidham Express by the then Chief Minister of Maharastra at Bombay Central station in a function which was presided over by then Chairman Railway Board Shri K.T.V.Raghavan.
The new service was introduced to meet the long standing demand of the people of Mumbai and Kutch for a direct fast train between the two areas. The introduction of Bombay Central – Gandhidham Express reduced the overall journey time from 21 hours to about 15 hours only.31 DN use to leave Bombay Central at 14.50 hrs reaching Gandhidham at 05.30 hrs the next day. In its return journey it use to leave Gandhidham at 22.00 hrs and reached Bombay Central at 13.20 hrs with 9 stoppages enroute in both directions. At that time it consisted of 2 first class ,7 second class sleeper and 6 second class general coaches, total 15 coaches.
This train became very popular soon after its introduction. Later it was extended upto New Bhuj from 3rd June 2001 when the then Prime Minister of India inaugurated the new BG line between Gandhidham and Bhuj.
On 8th February 2008 this train was shifted to Bandra Terminus and it used to run as 9031/9032 BDTS-NEW BHUJ Kutch Express .It was further renumbered as 9131/9132 from 15th June 2008.
At present 9131 Kutch Express starts from Bandra Terminus at 17.10 hrs and reaches Bhuj at 9.20 hrs the next day. Train no 9132 Kutch Express leave at 20.00 hrs and reaches Bandra Terminus at 11.30 hrs .It has 20 stoppages enroute at present. It consists of one AC2 Tier, two AC 3 Tier ,12 second class sleeper and 6 second class general coaches, total 21 coaches.
