New Delhi, July 23(PTI) The Government is considering a legislation to make the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS) an autonomous statutory body.
Acting on the recommendations of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Transport, Tourism and Culture, the Civil Aviation Ministry, under which the CRS functions, is proposing to pilot the bill.
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel said in a statement in the Lok Sabha today that the draft of the bill has been circulated to the Urban Development Ministry and the Railway Ministry to elicit their views.
As a follow-up measure, the Urban Development Ministry has constituted a committee under the Chief Commissioner of Railway Safety to identify the needs of the CRS.
The Parliamentary panel has recommended that the government should bring a comprehensive legislation to improve the functioning of the CRS in public interest.
