It may not be a celebrity story to rival the endless coverage of Michael Jackson's death, but actor Rupert Grint, who plays ginger-kid Ron Weaseley in the Harry Potter films, is reportedly recovering from a mild case of swine flu.

UN chief: $1 billion needed against A (H1N1) flu GENEVA (AP): The United Nations may need more than $1 billion this year to help poor countries fight the global A (H1N1) flu epidemic, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said on Monday.
Mr Ban said the money is needed to ensure that poor countries get some vaccine doses and antivirals if the global epidemic continues to spread. But he could not provide exact details on how the $1 billion would be spent.
``The funding has not been flowing as we have been expecting,'' Mr Ban told reporters. ``We are now mobilizing all resources possible.''
Since the World Health Organization declared A (H1N1) flu to be a pandemic, or global epidemic, last month, experts have worried about the virus' impact on developing countries.
For the moment, A (H1N1) flu is mild and most people recover without needing treatment. But the virus could have a more devastating impact in countries where populations are fighting other health problems like AIDS, pneumonia, malaria and tuberculosis.
World Health Organization chief Margaret Chan told potential donors that she wants to start a minimum stockpile of vaccines to 49 of the world's least developed countries as a first step. She did not name the countries.
``Many of the developing countries have weak health systems,'' said Chan. ``They actually go into this pandemic what I call empty-handed. They don't have antivirals. They don't have vaccines. They don't have antibiotics.''

Print July 08, 2009 Article from: Australian Associated Press RESEARCH claims that 99 per cent of Victorians who are down with the flu, almost certainly have swine flu.
Head of epidemiology at the Victorian Infectious Diseases Reference Laboratory, Heath Kelly, says that of the 73 people who tested positive for influenza at clinics monitoring flu viruses during the last week of June, 99 per cent had the H1N1 virus.
"It's amazing, swine flu has taken over the flu season,'' Dr Kelly told The Age.
"If you've got the flu, you've almost certainly got swine flu.''
The research, published in an online edition of the Medical Journal of Australia, also showed the median age of Victorians with the virus was between 18 to 22 years.
Australia has had 6353 laboratory-confirmed cases of swine flu with 13 deaths, including seven in Victoria.

A(H1N1): Google presses panic button
Company declares two-day holiday in one of its satellite offices ---------------------------------------------------------------------
Asks 250 contract employees to undergo
check-up in Chest Hospital
Around 95 contract staffers from Google visit the hospital on Tuesday
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
HYDERABAD: A two-day holiday was declared in one of the satellite offices of Google India in Hyderabad, after a contract employee tested positive for swine flu on Tuesday. Alarmed over the possibility of the virus spreading, Google has asked all of its 250 contract employees to undergo check-up in Government General and Chest Hospital, the nodal centre for swine flu treatment in the capital.
Google India has two offices in Hyderabad, one manned by its staffers, and the satellite office referred to as vendors’ facility, where over 250 persons work. The main office, however, has functioned normally on Tuesday.
According to Chest Hospital doctors, around 95 contract staffers from Google visited the hospital on Tuesday with apprehensions of being infected by A(H1N1) influenza virus. “It created quite a commotion at the hospital and we counselled and sent back most of them,” State coordinator for A(H1N1) influenza virus, K. Subhakar said. Only four of them were kept at the hospital for observation as they were ‘symptomatic’.
Precautionary measure
“One of our contractual workers in Hyderabad has been diagnosed with the virus. He has been hospitalised and is under full medical care. As a precautionary measure, we have closed the concerned office for two days, July 14 and 15, and are taking all necessary steps, including sanitising common areas, to protect our employees,” a Google spokesperson said.
Dr. Subhakar pleaded that there was no need to panic for software companies to declare holiday and send all the staff to the hospital. “Only when there are symptoms they need be sent,” he added.
Three more cases referred to the National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) tested positive. These include a 35-year-old woman who had come to the city from Florida, a 29-year-old man from Sydney and a 28-year-old businessman who came from Thailand.
Isolation wings
The administration has also started isolation wings at other health centres in the city, including at Vanasthalipuram and Kondapur.
Five suspected cases were sent to the facility at Kondapur on Tuesday and if any of them test positive, they will be shifted to the Chest hospital, doctors said. Results of 21 samples including some of those from contacts were still awaited from the NICD.

The youngest to test positive for the virus is an 11-month-old boy.
"So far 1,506 people have been tested out of which 285 are positive for influenza A (H1N1). Of the 285 positive cases, 178 have been discharged," a statement said here.
The 17 new confirmed cases were reported from Delhi (7), Pune (5), Cochin (2), Thiruvananthapuram (1), Kozhikode (1) and Goa (1).
The 11-month-old boy with A(H1N1) flu is from Delhi. The child had travelled from New York to Delhi July 14. Two days later, he developed flu-like symptoms.
Two brothers, 14 and 10 years old, and two sisters, aged nine and two-and-a-half-years, also tested positive Saturday.
According to Anjana Prakash, additional nodal officer for A(H1N1) flu with the Delhi government, 10 students were admitted at various identified health facilities with flu like symptoms. Of the total, four tested positive. The reports of six are awaited.
All these students are from four prestigious public schools in the national capital.
"We have reiterated to the school authorities to ensure that if any student shows flu-like symptoms the child should be immediately sent home," she said.
"There is nothing to panic. But people need to be cautious," Prakash told IANS.
In Pune, all five cases, four girls and a boy all in their early teens, got the virus from infected persons.
In Kochi, one of the two cases is of a nine-year old boy. He had come from London July 17. And as he was suffering from fever and cough, he was taken to the identified facility. His test was positive for A(H1N1) flu.
