New Delhi The much-awaited Anand Vihar railway terminal, announced around six years ago and slated for completion in 2007, may open by the end of this month. As a first step, the station is being linked with Sahibabad, for which non-interlocking work will be carried out on October 10 and 11. Non-interlocking entails connecting signalling of railway tracks of the upcoming station with another station on the route. “Trains will be received at a speed of 15 kmph at Sahibabad and manually piloted through the station to Anand Vihar. This will require two days,” Anant Swarup, spokesperson, Northern Railways,
said .

While the first two main line have already been connected, this non-
work will be for the third and fourth lines between the two stations. Several suburban trains will thereby be cancelled partially or completely and stoppages will also be withdrawn at Sahibabad for these two days, Northern Railways officials said.

“Around 30 trains will stand cancelled, 21 partially cancelled and stoppages for 12 trains will be withdrawn,” an official said.

The upcoming terminal is considered to be crucial as it is expected to offload the excess pressure on Delhi’s three main stations — Old Delhi, New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin — which see nearly 10 lakh passengers daily. the location of Anand Vihar in trans-Yamuna is also expected to de-congest roads as passengers from the area can board trains directly from the new station instead of going to the other stations.
